SPOT Overview & Eligibility

What is SPOT?

Used to recognize significant employee achievements and contributions, as they occur, for a specific project or task over a relatively short period of time. Prize amount is $1,000, or up to 10% of base salary, whichever is lower.

Who is Eligible?

  • Campus policy-covered staff (PSS and MSP) and represented staff in the clerical (CX) bargaining unit
  • Must have passed the probationary period at the time the nomination is submitted
  • Most recent performance evaluation must be “meets” or above
  • Supervisor must approve the nomination
SPOT Process
  • Total Department SPOT Award allocations are divided amongst work groups/units based on the percentage of total SPOT-eligible staff in the unit.
  • The Department will continue with a paper-based approach. SPOT submissions sent to the portal will not be considered.
  • An "Allocation Manager" is assigned for each group whose role is to solicit and review nominations as well as submit final awardees to the department (Allocation Managers can be viewed in the last column of the eligibility list).
  • Nominations forms are sent to the nominee's Supervisor/Manager or Allocation Manager for review.
  • Nominees are reviewed and awarded by their work group/unit's leadership using consistent, equitable criteria.
  • Each individual awarded will pull from their work group/unit’s respective SPOT Award allocation pot.
  • Eligible employees can now earn both an Achievement Award and SPOT Award within the same fiscal year.
